1. Background & Objectives
A university was seeking a comprehensive leadership development program aimed at enhancing strategic collaboration, adaptive leadership, and governance capabilities among its senior leadership team. The Vice-Chancellor signed off on the program as a key strategic priority to elevate leadership performance and cultural cohesion within the leadership cohort.
2. Consultant's Role & Approach
Consultant was selected to design and deliver a blended, cohort-based leadership program structured around a flipped-classroom model. The approach emphasised self-directed learning, experiential peer interaction, and institutional relevance.
3. Program Design & Delivery
A. Welcome & Orientation
Welcome video message: The program began with a professionally produced video featuring the Vice-Chancellor, who introduced themselves, affirmed the university's commitment to leadership development, and underscored why the leadership program was vital for the institution's mission and evolving challenges.
B. Monthly In-Person Sessions
Over 12 months, the cohort met face-to-face once per month. Each session was dedicated to an essential leadership theme such as strategic visioning, change leadership, team dynamics, inclusive culture, governance, emotional intelligence, decision-making under uncertainty, and future-focused innovation.
Sessions integrated interactive exercises, case discussions, reflection, and peer feedback to build both knowledge and relationships.
C. Flipped-Classroom Pre-Session Materials
Before each session, participants received curated resources: short videos, readings, reflective prompts, and frameworks relevant to the upcoming topic.
This pre-work was designed to prime participants and maximise reflective inquiry and application during in-person meetings.
D. Post-Session Summaries & Resource Hub
After each session, the consultant distributed a concise summary covering key takeaways, learning points, and action steps.
All materials - including recordings, readings, worksheets, and discussions - were organised in a shared digital repository, with clear links for easy access.
4. Culmination: Cohort-Specific Digital Offering
At the program's conclusion, the consultant delivered a polished, digital compendium tailored to the cohort, featuring:
- Full theory modules from the pre-session content
- Edited recordings of in-person workshops
- Integrated summaries synthesising the 12 core leadership themes
- Additional "next steps" toolkits for ongoing leadership development
This resource was designed for individual reinforcement and institutional legacy - enabling continuation, onboarding of new leaders, and future cohorts.
